New UKC rules for HTX program

Post  blackhillblues on Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:16 pm

I was just reading the June issue of Bloodlines and saw the article "HTX = Coondog" where they made mention of some rule changes issued by the UKC effective immediately that should make the program an even more interesting endeavor for some.

Rule Change #1 Use of transportation

The UKC has now decided to permit the use of ATV's and other types of "personal transportation" to help hunters who would not traditionally be capable of some of the physical demands associated with the HTX hunt test.

Rule Change #2 Use of Telemetry Systems

The UKC is now removing any & all restrictions from the use of tracking collars while participating in a UKC hunt test. (Traditionally the UKC allowed them to be worn as a recovery tool for collecting a dog after a hunt if necessary). However effective immediately participants in HTX tests are permitted to use tracking equipment during the test (as is done by most pleasure hunters) and this is to include the use of Garmin GPS's.

I personally agree with these updates to the HTX rules with the goal of making the HTX program more appealing to the "pleasure hunter" that has traditionally been reluctant to participate in the UKC's night hunt events. I'm looking forward to some of these tests being offered at our Maine clubs. Does anyone know of any HTX events upcoming in Maine?

    HTX on 8-17

I'm definitely planning to be there, I actually just saw that you had it posted on the UKC HTX page the other night. So how does the HTX work, do we need to register for the event or do we just show up the night of the test?
